Economics, Demography and Communication

چکیده
This paper presents a model in which agents are distinguished by their characteristics, exchange of goods requires communication between firms and their customers, and agents with similar characteristics communicate more effectively. This setup delivers a body of testable implications about the matching of workers to jobs, the associated wages and product prices, and the manner in which job assignments, wages and prices respond to changes in the parameters of the economy. ∗Thanks are due Gary Becker and Kevin Lang for thoughtful comments. An early version of this paper was co-authored with Stacey Kole.

متن کاملWhat Can Corporate Demography and Economics Contribute to Each Other
The emerging field of corporate demography views corporations and industries in a similar way to human or animal individuals and groups. In spite of a surprisingly large overlap of subject matter with economics, corporate demography is not well-known by, nor easily accessible to economists. An outstanding recent book, The Demography of Corporations and Industries, by Glenn R. Carroll and Michae...

We examine within a life-cycle set-up the simultaneous choice of health care and retirement (together with consumption), when health care contributes to both a reduction in mortality and in morbidity. Health tends to impact on retirement via morbidity, determining the disutility of work, and through longevity, determining the need to accumulate retirement wealth. In contrast, the age of retirem...
